My newest project started just like any other. Me and another musician talking about how much we like some sort of music and how we should jam sometime and see where it goes. Rewind to this past summer 2011 at the WBRU Summer Concert Series. Some friends just performed Weezer’s Blue Album in it’s entirety and we were hanging out at the Whiskey Republic in Providence drinking Gansetts and talking about it. I’ve never cared for cover bands, but the idea of paying tribute to an iconic record that influenced us and brought to music in the first place really inspired me. So my friend Eric and I thought about other records we grew up with that would work with The Blue Album and get some shows going. Foo Fighters’ The Colour & The Shape came to mind first and it was brilliant. Eric and I immediately called guitar, but who else would we get. Eric already knew the perfect singer and bassist and I knew some drummers. The bassist, Nick from Fairhaven, was perfect, but not the singer. Well basically he didn’t have time for another project being in Dead Fish Handshake, but his guitarist was. So in steps David (not Grohl), and bam. He not only already knew how to sing the whole record, but was damn good at it. He even looks like he could fill in for a member of Foo Fighters or Alice In Chains. So I got in touch with my boy Nick from The Coming Weak and was super stoked to jam again. A few practices and some homework later we have the record down. But are we really ready? There’s only one way and two chances to find out. We are playing Friday, December 16 at The Ruins in Providence and then on Thursday, December 29 at TT’s in Cambridge. Both shows are with our friends in The Blue Album. Check out the fliers below for details on both shows and just be there. Because I really don’t want to get any Facebook/Tweets about when the next show is. There isn’t one dammit. One time only and for two shows …or so!
